“Lately I've experienced
the looking-glass effect
while painting.
In their messages, I'll find pieces of myself. I'll discover who the painting is while creating."

BFA in Printmaking & Painting,
Award Winning Artist
Biography
Jaylene Cabrera (b. 2001, Florida) is a live painter based in Virginia Beach. She earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking. Her work has been exhibited across four major cities in 28 exhibitions, featured in 15+ publications, and recognized with two first-place awards.
Cabrera paints abstract works in oil and acrylic expressing themes of womanhood, nature, and emotional cycles. This practice begins long before paint touches a surface. Leaves from her morning tea or coffee are saved for staining and texture, connecting a ritual to an artistic practice. Her paintings evolve spontaneously through stylistically drawn or abstracted elements with messages from music. A narrative unravels and it is given a name tied to its influence. Color and marks portray experiences and emotions that words cannot. In this practice, creating makes her completely untethered. Now, she spends countless hours nestled in her Virginia studio creating her next collection.
