Maverick

Original

$10500.00

Maverick emerged from a period of isolation and depression. During this time, Jaylene became fixated on finding an outlet to express her loneliness and create a sense of escape. The marks within the painting were largely unplanned and instinctive. To create them, she attached brushes to the ends of six-foot extension poles, allowing her to make sweeping, physical gestures across the canvas. This process helped release tension held within her body and transformed emotional energy into movement and mark-making.

Jaylene also incorporated globe cacti dipped in paint, throwing them forcefully against the surface to create unpredictable textures and impressions. Her portrait was then painted over multiple layers of blue and green paint, building a history of gestures and emotions beneath the final image.

The title Maverick came to be after a professor described her artistic approach as that of a maverick—someone willing to forge their own path. The word resonated deeply, as it reflected her independent nature and unconventional approach to both life and art.

This artwork has received significant recognition, including being featured in three magazines, earning Best Overall at the UNF Juried Art Show, and being exhibited in seven art galleries in Florida, Colorado and most recently,Virginia. Through its layered process and raw physicality, Maverick stands as a powerful exploration of emotional release, resilience, and individuality.
